1 – Cat/Cow Stretch
This stretch is particularly useful for strengthening and relieving lower back pain.
Start on all fours with your hands directly beneath your shoulders and knees directly below your hips.
On an inhale breath, arch your back and lift your chin to the sky, looking up.
On an exhale breath, round your spine toward the ceiling and lower your head.
Continue this movement for 1-2 minutes, breathing deeply and feeling the stretch in your lower back.
2 – Child’s Pose
This stretch is another effective way to relieve lower back pain after an activity.
Start in a kneeling position with your feet apart and your big toes touching.
Bend forward to rest your torso on your thighs, bringing your arms by your side and outstretched in front of you.
Stay in this position for 1-2 minutes, breathing deeply and feeling the stretch in your lower back.
3 – Standing Hamstring Stretch
This stretch is intended to increase flexibility and loosen up your lower back.
Stand straight up and place one foot on an elevated surface like a chair or step. Reach toward your toes, feeling the stretch in the back of your leg and lower back.
Hold this position for 20-30 seconds before releasing and repeating with the other leg.
